Benjamín Haverla is a filmmaker based in Martin, Slovakia. He has been studying Information and Digital Technologies studies for four years at Private Secondary Technical School in Poprad founded by the Tatra Academy n. o. He started to make films when he was 12 years old. Later he gained success in film competitions for youth and children in Slovakia. As an actor, he collaborated on advertising for an ISIC company in Slovakia. His main career goal is to direct a feature film.
I chose to direct this film because I experienced something beautiful and sad 2 years ago. These experiences made me think about friendship and love in another way. Finding the inspiration for that story was a long journey and honestly in my opinion without that experience, I would never create this short film. While watching this film, I wanted the viewer to experience it because this short film is meant to show the power of love from the point of view of a young man. Moreover, love is not the only theme here although it is a prevailing one. The others include, for example comparisons of love relationships between old generations and this generation. The film turned out to be a little different than the script because we all know that the coronavirus crisis has affected the whole world. I had a problem with finishing the last 3 scenes because it was difficult to meet someone and ask them to act. So my first decision was to wait and to complete the last three scenes once the crisis was over. But after a week, I got an inner impulse that told me, "Why don't you want to show those 3 scenes differently?" So my inner voice helped me finish this short film earlier and also that was the reason why the film turned out to be a little different than the script. This film will always be special to me because I put in there my declaration of love in a hidden way. Also, I had a feeling that a short film must be created differently. I mean from both visual and poetic point of view. Last but not least the film provided me with an opportunity to work with some talented and amazing people.
