Ben Robins is a writer and director, originally from Essex. He’s passionate about making diverse, cinematic and generally weird films that his mum will probably never like or understand.
Ben made his first short, LOSING IT, in 2018. It was produced by DELAVAL FILM, with development from CREATIVE ENGLAND, as part of the first round of their SHORTFLIX scheme. The film went on to premiere on the SKY ARTS channel, before taking its festival bow at ENCOUNTERS, and has been called “Funny and original” by filmmaker and journalist NEV PIERCE (BRICKS, GHOSTED, Contributing Editor - EMPIRE).
Ben's second short, THE LAST JEFF, starring SAG Award-winner Erin Doherty (THE CROWN), premiered at the BRITISH SHORTS festival in Berlin in 2021 and was selected by DIRECTOR'S NOTES as one of their 'Best Films at the British Shorts Film Festival 2021'.
Ben is also an entertainment writer, and has been published by LITTLE WHITE LIES, FILM STORIES, HEYUGUYS and a number of other outlets. He is currently developing more shorts, as well as a feature screenplay.
THE LAST JEFF is a tiny comedy with a massive concept at the heart of it - what if the last man on Earth wasn’t as alone as he thought? What secrets would someone who thinks they’re truly alone in this world finally give up on hiding? And how do you reach out and help someone who has no idea that you even exist?
Inspired by the wickedly dark humour of Julia Davis, Alice Lowe, and Ben Wheatley, and leaning into the Scandinavian coldness of Roy Andersson and Ruben Östlund, this is a film about distance, our relationships with our parents, and the building issues of treating mental health.
