The Island

The story of a young woman Capeley who is caring her listless father and feeling weariness with caregiving routines. Her unexpected trip to Rishiri island leads spiritual redeeming by sacred spring water from the mountain Rishiri-Fuji. The original story inspired by Rishiri Island.

Director Biography - Sora

An author and illustrator of picture books based in Hokkaido, who is involved in character development, among other activities. In addition to reading her picture books to children, she engages in live painting, gives lectures, and makes appearances on TV, radio, and magazines, showcasing a wide range of activities.
Her main representative works include the character 'Ezo Momonga' for JR Hokkaido's IC card ticket "Kitaca," the Hokkaido tourism PR character 'Kyunchan,' and the PR character 'Tureppon' for Upopoy (the Symbolic Space for Ethnic Harmony). Her major publications include "Panda Star" (Gakken Plus) and "Randy and the Yellow Truck" (Gakken Plus), among many others.
In 2021, she received the Hokkaido Director's Award and the Hokkaido Media Award at the 16th Sapporo International Short Film Festival for her directorial debut, "The Hedgehog's Love."
"The Island" is her second animated short films which is dedicated her love to Rishiri Island, Hokkaido Japan.

北海道を拠点として活動する・絵本作家・イラストレーター。キャラクター開発などを手掛けるほか、自身の絵本による子どもたちへの読み聞かせやライブペインティング、講演や、テレビ·ラジオ·雑誌などへの出演など、多方面での活動も展開。
主な代表作に、JR北海道ICカード乗車券「Kitaca（キタカ）」のキャラクター『エゾモモンガ』。北海道観光PRキャラクター『キュンちゃん』、ウポポイ（民族共生象徴空間）『PRキャラクタートゥレッポん』などがある。主な著書に、「パンダ星」（学研プラス）「ランディーときいろのトラック」（学研プラス）他多数。

2021年、初監督作品『ハリネズミの愛』で第16回札幌国際短編映画祭にて北海道監督賞と北海道メディアアワード賞を受賞。
