The Housewife

In this proof-of-concept for a feature, a disillusioned housewife rediscovers her power after she and her son are placed in mortal danger.

This is a film that challenges traditional gender roles in the family, explores female empowerment, and most of all, re-examines mothers as everyday heroes. We are proud to feature a diverse female cast and females in key creative roles.

This dark thriller – about a discontented stay-at-home mother who must rely on her own skills and ingenuity to survive when she and her son are kidnapped – marks award-winning director Jeremiah Kipp’s (SLAPFACE, BLACK WAKE) first foray into the thriller genre after a long and successful career directing horror features.

The script is written by Sundance Screenwriters Lab finalist and New York Times bestselling author Kelly A. Turner, who also stars in the film. THE HOUSEWIFE short film is a proof-of-concept for Turner's feature script of the same name. In addition to our diverse and female-centric cast, the film was produced by three female producers in addition to having a female first assistant director. We hope you enjoy THE HOUSEWIFE!

Director Biography - Jeremiah Kipp

Jeremiah Kipp is a freelance film director born in Rhode Island and now based in New York. His directing credits include the award-winning horror SLAPFACE, which he also wrote, the Chinese-American action movie BROKEN BADGES, the horror-sci fi hybrid BLACK WAKE, THE SADIST starring Tom Savini, EDWARD ALBEE: A TRANSFORMATIVE JOURNEY starring Mercedes Ruehl, and DON'T PICK UP starring Keith David. He is currently in pre-production on a film adaptation of the video game THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT.

Director Statement

The ticking clock is in place, embedded into the narrative of this thriller. But it's the title character in THE HOUSEWIFE that really drives the story. This underestimated hero thinking through how she and her son will escape their brutal kidnappers felt like a human drama nested in a taut efficient crime story. Economical in our shooting style and ruthlessly fast-paced in the edit, as if we didn't have one second to spare, there is also a warmth and thoughtfulness in Kelly A. Turner's script and performance that shines through. It's not Stallone or Van Damme punching their way to victory; this is all about the mother who will do anything to save her son.
