The Greater Depression

The streets of the East Village in New York City during the early part of the pandemic looked very similar to images from the Great Depression of the 1930s. Every day for months, people would bring out their wares to sell--canned goods, old cosmetics, books, clothes, and toys. They would set their stuff out on tables or on cardboard on the ground, pack it all up each night, and return the next day.

Director Statement

This is one of my favorite things to do each day: to walk out of my apartment and look at each and every person that passes; to not look at people I'm attracted to more than people I'm not attracted to; to see each and every person as a unique individual. Bearing witness is extremely important to me.
