The Getaway Crew

The Getaway Crew follows Carmen, a lively but struggling woman who returns to her hometown after hitting rock bottom. Taking a job at a local church, she finds herself leading a mismatched group of misfits: Mia, a bipolar, rebellious young woman; Caleb, a washed-up football star; Claire, an introverted photographer; and Owen, a frustrated author. Resistant to Carmen’s optimism, the group embarks on a road trip that spirals into chaos. Through comedic mishaps and clashing personalities, their journey reveals the vulnerabilities that brought them together and the unlikely bonds that just might hold them up.

Director Biography - Mariah Morgenstern

Mariah Morgenstern is an entrepreneur, filmmaker, and musician working between Los Angeles and Ireland. She is the founder of New Royalty Films, a GRAMMY-affiliated media company producing original work across film, music, and digital platforms. Mariah also releases music under the artist name myah, building a creative ecosystem where visuals and sound support one another.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida with a degree in Film and a minor in Mass Communications, she was selected in 2020 as a director for Second City Hollywood's program, where she trained in improv and developed her comedic voice. Her short film, "Death And" (2023) received a Silver People's Telly Award and won Best Director, Best Horror Comedy, and Best Visual Effects at festivals across the U.S. and internationally.

In 2025, she completed two feature films, Skimmer and The Getaway Crew, both under the New Royalty banner, making her one of the few first-time female directors to debut and release a sophomore feature in the same calendar year. Her work is known for blending genres with comedic elements, character-driven storytelling, and themes of identity, friendship, and survival.

As a producer, Mariah's credits include New Jack Fury, which premiered at SXSW in 2025, and Bumblebees, which premiered at Tribeca in 2022. Her work has contributed to VMA-nominated music videos ("Mood" 24K Goldn) and she is a current GRAMMY U member, continuing to build a multidisciplinary career across film and music.

Director Statement

The Getaway Crew is my second feature film, and yes, it is debuting at the same time as my first feature film, Skimmer. Although stylistically similar to Skimmer, The Getaway Crew is my debut as both director and editor. I believe wearing both these hats has allowed me to fully, creatively, show all the elements I love about filmmaking. All of its imperfections, nods to my favorite auteurs, and, more importantly, how film is a means by which we can show our humanity. This movie is fun, it's funny, and its got heart.

It's meant to leave you with a smile on your face, and I hope that in watching my movies, you see the way I view the world, while allowing you to escape your own for a little while.
