The Gardener, based on a poem from Jane Campbell’s prize-winning debut collection features exquisite stop-motion animation by director artists Efa Blosse Mason and Sophie Marsh. The gardener narrator prepares for a joyful 'after-death' as she becomes part of the the orchard she planted.

Director Biography - Efa Blosse-Mason, Sofie Marsh

Efa Blosse-Mason is a filmmaker and illustrator from Cardiff who wrote and directed a short Welsh language film ‘Cwch Deilen/Leaf Boat’ which is currently on All 4 as part of the Best Of British Iris Prize selection. Efa went to university at the Bristol School of Animation and her graduate film ‘Earthly Delights’ won the Royal Television Society Award for best student animation in 2019. She makes a range of work from children's television to music videos and documentaries. She is also a member of Ffilm Ifanc which is a group of young programmers in Wales. Her work is usually focused on the themes of women, LGBTQ+ stories and nature.

Sophie Marsh is a Bristol-based animator specialising in stop-motion with paper puppets. She is passionate about telling humorous and educational stories about the environment and animal life. She is the writer and director of, Untamed Truths, an animated film funded by The Random Acts Project (Calling the Shots) and broadcasted by Channel 4.

Writer/ Producer statement Jane Campbell
I saw Efa's work online and contacted her to say how it reminded me of a poem I'd written and Efa produced that exact poem that she had written down.
Believing such synchronicity meant we should work together, the idea of this poetry film The Gardener was born. I have learned so much from working with such a talented and kind animator.
