I am a person with autism. Contrary to what you might think, this is an incredible gift for a filmmaker. I see things that most people ignore. My films reflect my experience of growing up with a disability and ideas about how society needs to change to become more inclusive.
Each year 50,000 students with autism graduate from high school. Less than 500 manage to graduate from a four year college. This film explores what causes this to happen. Issues discussed are the failure of special education to prepare students, delayed brain development, low societal expectations, and a low self esteem. The film also shows positive pathways to success including volunteering, community college pathways and the importance of inclusion in building a desire for professional accomplishments.
