The Empty Stage
The Empty Stage
Leah loved to sing. Not just in the shower, though she did that with gusto – but with a deep, passionate yearning that filled every note. She dreamed of sharing her voice with the world, of touching people with the emotions she poured into every phrase. She worked hard, practicing scales, honing her technique. Success hadn't quite found her yet, but Leah believed in her talent and the power of her voice.
Then, the whispers started. A slight rasp, easily dismissed at first, but it lingered, growing stronger. Doctors’ visits became frequent, the words like "nodules" and "vocal strain" echoing in her ears. Leah tried everything – rest, therapy, even some unusual herbal remedies suggested by well-meaning friends. She was determined to overcome this setback. Her voice was her passion, her way of connecting with the world.
The treatments were difficult, and the results were slow. Leah’s voice, while never perfectly polished, had been her instrument, the tool she used to express her deepest feelings. Now, it was unpredictable, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, the high notes flickering like dying embers. She refused to give up. She practiced diligently, hoping to regain her former strength, picturing herself back on stage, sharing her love of music.
But as the days turned into weeks, Leah began to realize her voice may never be what it once was.
It's difficult to admit when a dream has ended.
