The Elite 8

BEST WEB SERIES, 2019 EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL MAINSTREAM & UNDERGROUND

BEST WEB/NEW MEDIA, 2019 LA EDGE FILM AWARDS

The Elite 8 are Lane's eight girlfriends from middle school to middle age. The relationships & episodes reflect Lane's journey from math whiz kid to trader on Wall Street to soulful human being.

(View all 8 episodes at: https://vimeo.com/showcase/5709814)

Each girl or woman is a female archetype. The Elite 8 are:

Stella, The Girl Next Door
Brainiac Haley
Crusader Cerise
Morgan, The Boss
Gia, The Seductress
Anabeth, The Husband Hunter
Waif/Poetess Bliss
Free Spirit Juliette

The series opens with Stella telling young Lane eight boys have asked her to Homecoming. She has narrowed them down to the Final Four. Stella confides to Lane, "Homecoming would be a lot more fun if I was going with you." That is not an option because all of her friends are going with seniors and Lane is in the middle school.

Young Lane, Adult Lane, and Older Lane pursue eight contenders for The One. Lane is not ready to commit his heart & soul to any new girl or woman until Episode 8. Has he met his match with Free Spirit Juliette?

Director Biography - Jeryl Parade

Jeryl Parade is a filmmaker based in Washington, DC. In 2015 Jeryl wrote and directed the hit Capital Fringe play, Girl with Two Belly Buttons. This was a semi personal exploration of past (& future) boyfriends. For the sequel, one of the playgoers called on Jeryl to tell a similar story from a male's point of view. The Elite 8 - which can also refer to the NCAA college basketball quarterfinals - is Jeryl's answer to that challenge.

Director Statement

My vision for The Elite 8 is a streaming series of 1/2 hour episodes. The 2-minute episodes on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/showcase/5709814) are parts of larger story lines. For example, in Episode 4, Morgan surprises Lane by hiring him. By Episode 5, Morgan & Lane have broken up and Gia wants to help Lane get revenge. The 1/2 hour format will reveal everything that happens in between. In the long form series, Lane and an entourage of middle school nerds crash the Homecoming. We'll also see Older Corporate Lane trying his hand at open mic poetry.
