Bruno Rodrigues is a Brazilian screenwriter and storyteller focused on psychologically driven narratives that explore trauma, identity, grief, and human vulnerability. Influenced by atmospheric cinema and emotionally grounded character studies, his work blends intimate drama with thriller and arthouse sensibilities.
Currently studying filmmaking at Columbia College Chicago, Bruno developed The Distorted Prayer as part of his growing body of character-focused cinematic projects. His writing often explores fractured memory, emotional isolation, and the collision between love and violence through visually immersive storytelling.
The Distorted Prayer marks one of his first major screenplay projects submitted to the international festival circuit.
The Distorted Prayer was born from my interest in exploring how trauma reshapes memory, identity, and the way we experience love and guilt. I wanted to create a story that felt emotionally intimate while also psychologically unsettling — a film where silence, fragmented memories, and visual atmosphere carry as much weight as dialogue.
At its core, the project is about repression, shame, and the devastating consequences of violence disguised as faith and control. Through Lucas’ perspective, I wanted to portray the emotional aftermath of surviving trauma rather than focusing only on the tragedy itself.
As a filmmaker and writer, I’m deeply inspired by atmospheric character-driven cinema that blends realism with emotional subjectivity. With The Distorted Prayer, my goal was to create a film that feels haunting, human, and painfully vulnerable — a story that lingers long after it ends.
