The Clean Up Guys

A documentary crew and a well-spoken narrator follow veteran Clean Up Guy Dave and newbie Barry on his first day on the job. They have been sent to a warehouse to clean up a bloody mess left behind from a Secret Agent’s brutal mission. Dave leads Barry and the crew into the warehouse, revealing how horrific the scene really is. As they clean up the severed limbs, corpses and pieces of flesh, Barry discovers an unusual side to Dave whilst they both discover an explosive surprise left behind by a villainous General.

Director Biography - Jordan Booker

Jordan has been working in the film industry for over 4 years and has recently reached the final year of his degree at the Norwich University of the Arts. With his most recent film being his second directorial role, his expertise lies in Assistant Directing, Writing and Editing but his passion lies in Directing his own projects. He is currently working on directing his third short and his first feature whilst gaining further training in Assistant Directing to help both his own filmmaking and his career in that field too.

Director Statement

The Clean Up Guys was a journey to make, it took arduous work, determination and a ton of team coordination to pull off. It started as most ideas go with the simple question of “what if?”. My “What If?” in this regard was the question of “What if you placed two stereotypically British people into a world so much cooler and interesting than they are?”. This idea developed and grew into becoming the story you see in The Clean Up Guys: Two British blokes of two different generations thrown into a world which they truly do not belong in. Therefore, unfortunately, they’re thrown in at the rather “messy” end. I used this juxtaposition of these two different worlds to really brew the comedy within The Clean Up Guys, as my creative style thrives off a weird sense of realism. Therefore, I made sure the characters felt like they could quite easily be your neighbour, your dad or your brother, giving them that true sense of realism and relatability in their foolishness and attitude. This is really what makes this film important in some ways, it is as relatable as it is an entertaining and funny piece in which people can find humour at laughing at others who don’t fit into the world they’re in, when the audience themselves may feel the same way.

Some of my biggest inspiration, for The Clean Up Guys, was Taika Waititi’s What We Do In The Shadows. He also uses a similar method I have used for The Clean Up Guys with his juxtaposition of these unusual creatures like werewolves and vampires against the attitudes of the kiwi people which offers such a unique sense of humour just by playing on the blandness of people’s attitudes in comparison to the unusual and quirky nature of the vampires and other creatures.

In the end, my honest intention for The Clean Up Guys is to make people laugh. I want them to have a fun time watching the film, be invested in these rather average characters and enjoy all the predicaments they get themselves into.
