The Blossom and the Mountain

Sakura and Fuji one fleeting, one eternal, falling for one another through the spring. Fire rages, water washes over them, and nature takes its course. Blossom fades, but their love lingers, even as the petals fall. A poetic take on love, time, and letting go.

Director Biography - Kathleen Stevenson

As a young female filmmaker/non binary filmmaker with autism and ADHD I have found that film truly is the most expensive form of therapy.

I work as an expressionist and viscerally visual storyteller, using my films as a means of catharsis and self-expression. I have an insatiable thirst for the study and analysis of film, particularly European movements such as German Expressionism and Czech New Wave.

I am incredibly grateful to my family who managed to save and send me to Met film school based at Ealing studios for a 2 year intensive course on practical filmmaking. It was there that I began developing my own style, both visually and in the way I run my shoot days.

I draw inspiration from filmmakers who embrace raw honesty and experimentation: Lars von Trier, particularly Melancholia and Antichrist; David Lynch’s Eraserhead; Ridley Scott, especially Blade Runner; and Denis Villeneuve, with Dune being a particular influence.

I produce, direct, and edit films full-time, with music videos as my primary love in which sound becomes colour and images dance in time. Short films remain my passion project: fleeting dreams I chase though they often stay on the page a little longer than I’d like, waiting for the funding to catch up with the ideas.

Director Statement

This film is for anyone who’s ever loved and had to let go.

Themes of love, loss, and the weight of grief unfold in a spring landscape where the elements collide.

Nick wrote a song that cracked something open in me—a piece about holding on, letting go, and everything that lives in between.

He trusted me to bring it to life on screen, and I gave it everything.

As the director, producer and editor I was lucky enough to bring together the most incredible team I have ever had the pleasure to work with and I thank them for pouring their hearts and putting such trust into this film.

Everybody went above and beyond and it shows in every detail, from hair and makeup to custom-designed costumes, choreography, fire and water tank stunts, and not to mention the cinematography.

I hope the film resonates with you as much as it did with us while creating it.
