Director Biography - Iván Preuss

Scriptwriter, director and producer. He was born in the city of Carmen de Patagones, in the south of the province of Buenos Aires, in 1995. Currently based in Buenos Aires.

He studied at the Universidad del Cine (FUC) and at the Faculty of Fine Arts (UNLP). He is mainly dedicated to positively represent the LGBTQ+ community, with a touch of fantasy, underexposed nostalgia and hazy dreams.

In the summer of 2019 he ventured to shoot «The Beautiful Fantasy of the Final Purpose» in his hometown where it was declared of Cultural and Municipal Interest.

He is currently directing and producing «Kinaman», an LGBTQ+ romantic drama mini-series that touches on issues of urgent importance such as homophobia, transphobia, school bullying, sexual abuse and mental illness such as depression and bipolar disorder.

Each issue is addressed by a subtle and empathetic look that seeks to reach an adolescent/youth audience.

And he's also writing his next feature-film, a futuristic epic drama based in the same Cinematic Universe as his previous two projects.

Director Statement

Everything is born from a small seed, in this case it was a walk by car along the coast of Carmen de Patagones. It was raining and I was listening to «The Wind» by John Park. Suddenly, I remembered the reason for my walk that night, the funeral of a family member, I was escaping from the wake of a loved one. The sudden guilt reminded me of another very similar moment, a memory in which I found myself locked in my room without wanting to go to my grandfather's funeral. Thus was born The Beautiful Fantasy, that was the first seed.

Several years ago, in 2017, I saw myself drowned within four walls, learning things that didn't interest me and only increased my restlessness to just create films. So I left the university and made this film. It was an emotional and creative release. «I can finally create», I said to myself. And that's how a group of twelve people came to my hometown, Carmen de Patagones, and for two weeks we filmed tirelessly.

The Beautiful Fantasy of the Final Purpose was -and still is- an unforgettable experience. And what I didn't know at the time was that this story would trigger a very rich Fantastic Universe, with a huge mythology, and which encompasses not only this film, but also many other projects like my series «Kinaman» (2022) and my next film «Abril Viene con su Sol».
