Shorna Abedin is an independent filmmaker and visual artist from Barishal, Bangladesh. She holds an MA in English Literature from Bangladesh National University and has a strong background in storytelling, visual arts, and animation.
Shorna’s work focuses on the intersection of humanity, nature, and spirituality, often exploring emotional and social themes through immersive visual storytelling. With The Axe, she continues her pursuit of creating films that are both aesthetically striking and socially conscious, aiming to spark awareness and inspire action on critical global issues.

The Axe was born out of a desire to explore the invisible consequences of human actions on the natural world. As our forests fall silently, we often fail to recognize the ripple effect of these choices on our collective future.
Through animation, I wanted to give a voice to the trees and the planet—to make the silent scream of nature visible. Every frame, every movement, and every note in the film is carefully crafted to evoke empathy, reflection, and urgency.
This short film is not just a story; it is a call to action—a reminder that saving trees is not an act of charity, but a responsibility essential for survival. I hope The Axe resonates with audiences worldwide and encourages a deeper awareness of our environment.
