The Staircase of Lost Dreams
Yuji Hatanaka and his wife Mai live quietly in a suburb near Tokyo. Though they don't have children, they enjoy a modest yet happy life together. One day, while chatting in their living room, they receive a visit from the Miyake couple, Yuji's juniors. However, Yuji's behavior leaves a strong sense of unease. What is the true nature of this unsettling feeling that is revealed in the final three minutes? This one-setting horror unfolds primarily in the living room and entrance of their home.

Influenced by his family from a young age, he was exposed to music and design. As a teenager, he engaged in band activities, designing CD covers and T-shirts for his own band. Later, he moved to Tokyo and attended avex artist academy's Professional Composition course, while also working at production companies. Over approximately 11 years, he learned the basics of design and photography, assisted professional photographers on shoots, and conducted his own photography, gaining experience in various settings.
After leaving the production company, he became independent, engaging in not only still photography but also video production. His work includes shooting and interviewing celebrities and cultural figures, creating corporate videos, and more. He handles screenwriting, directing, filming, editing, and VFX by himself, and designs all logos and posters, using his own composed music in his productions.
I wanted to create a one-setting horror film that unfolds quietly within the confines of a house, so the story takes place almost entirely in the living room and entrance. I paid meticulous attention to the dialogue's foreshadowing and subtle facial expressions to convey a sense of fear and unease that feels like an extension of everyday life.
