Jovan Dopudj is a director and screenwriter from Belgrade, Serbia. He graduated in film directing from the Academy of Arts. His passion for film began during his studies, when his short documentary "Marked" (2018), made in his second year of university, caught the attention of the international festival circuit. The film was screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide, including the renowned Odense International Film Festival (2018) and the BAFTA-qualifying Fresh Student Media Awards.
"Marked" received special recognition in early 2019 when it was screened at the Human Rights Film Festival in Barcelona, which led to the film being distributed by AECID, a Spanish organization under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of a human rights awareness campaign across countries in South America, Africa, and the Middle East.
Jovan’s filmography spans a variety of genres and styles, with a focus on social themes and intimate human stories. His feature-length documentary-animated film "Freechain" (2023) explores global economic inequality, while his short fiction film "On the Margins" (2022), supported by the Film Center Serbia, addresses issues of social exclusion. His earlier short fiction film "Bitter Sugar" (2018) also gained recognition at both domestic and international festivals.
He is the founder of Yugo Motion Pictures, a film production company based in Belgrade, through which he is currently developing two feature-length films. In addition to his authorial projects, Jovan has worked as a director and assistant director on numerous commercials and music videos, which has allowed him to build a wide network of professional connections across the Balkans and Europe.
