Sau is an emerging filmmaker from Eastern Indonesia, bringing authentic local stories and perspectives from a region rarely represented in mainstream cinema. He has been actively involved in the production of four short films, all of which can be viewed on the Basodara Picture YouTube channel: Jhon’s Life Story (2023), Faen Kuan (2024), Story of Sonbai: The King of Timor Island (2025), and Kuda Tua Menolak Punah (The Old Horse Refuses to Die, 2022).
Through his works, Sau captures the resilience, culture, and humanity of Eastern Indonesia with a distinctive storytelling voice rooted in his heritage.
His goal with TEMAN TIDUR is not merely to entertain, but to leave a lingering reflection on the importance of boundaries, both emotional and personal. In a world where people are constantly overstimulated and rarely allowed to rest, the film invites viewers to confront the silent moments between wakefulness and surrender, between holding on and letting go.
For me, one of the most essential forms of self-care is learning how to set boundaries. It is the act of choosing when to stop, when to listen to ourselves, and when to let things be. TEMAN TIDUR is a quiet reminder that caring for our mental well-being begins with knowing our limits because only by defining where we end, can we truly find peace within.
