Born 16th of September 1997, Maksim Ilkovski started playing around with the family camera at the age of eight. From that, raised an interest, passion and curiosity towards film making. Starting from making shorts with friends from elementary school, winning the 2015 highschool state award for short film, entering the International University - Europa Prima - Skopje, to earning a specialization degree (01.10.2020) and a masters degree (30.05.2023)
2020-2022 directed Macedonia's beloved folk tales for national TV: 100 episodes +4 specials, and also made the finishing touches in editing.
Filming this project was a delight, the team gave an exceptional performance, all the while being polite and professional as well.
This project took seven months in pre-production, five days to film, five days to edit (rough cut), and a month to "twink" the details in editing with effects and graphics.
Because we couldn't manage any sponsors to get behind us on this project (my first experience searching for sponsors), my mother gave me 120 euros to at least pay 30€ for each of the actors.
The process of making this film was the headline thesis for my University specialization degree in Film & TV Directing.
This film was made under harsh conditions in between the covid-19 lockdowns.
This story is very dear to me, something everyone included believed to be the essence of our youth's problem when it comes to love life.
The only support we had was a crate of canned beverages with which the cameraman and his assistant were paid off, and the restaurant which provided us a meal for our shooting days.
The rest was building friendships and doing favours to gain permission for shooting at the apartment and borrowing light equipment.
Our team would love to share this story.
