Director Statement

While "Tech Rehearsal" is a work of fiction, I have (in some way) directly experienced every event in this short film.

I took my first steps on a theater stage as the turtle in a production of "Mary Poppins". Surely you remember the turtle! No? That's okay, it was a made up character to add a 5-year-old to the community theater show. Throughout my entire childhood, the theater was my life. I did three shows a year from ages 5-15. While others were playing tee-ball, I was wearing tights and singing my heart out.

Now, as a filmmaker, I've been lucky enough to be invited back to the stage multiple times (both as an actor and director). I love it. The community, and the connection shared by those who have worked to "put on a play". I made this movie for those "theater people". I hope you enjoy it and it makes you want to go see a show.

By the way, the theater we filmed in was the same stage where I took my first steps as an actor... I was dressed like a turtle.
