Director Biography - Christopher Lazar

Christopher Lazar was raised a 90's kid in Vancouver, B.C, and began his film career as an actor at age seven, appearing in television shows like “The X-files”, “Sliders”, and “The Outer Limits”. At age twelve, Chris landed a recurring role on the James Cameron series “Dark Angel”, directed by television legend David Nutter. When Chris was eighteen, he scored a seat on “Snakes On A Plane!”, a production that shifted his perspective forever: “I'm on this plane inside a studio for three months straight. At first everyone's thinking “”Can you believe we're making this?”” and it seemed like a big joke. Turns out that's exactly what it was, and seeing the sausage get made for twelve weeks gave me confidence to believe I could do it better.” The experience left an indelible mark on Chris's path in the film industry. He had a new-found desire to be the man behind the camera, so he enrolled in film school and set his sights on directing feature films. After graduating in 2007, Chris traded the mountains and trees of Vancouver for the concrete jungle of Toronto to work in music videos. “A lot of directors I admired used music videos as their proving ground, so I decided to trace their footsteps and dive into music video world. The stakes weren't as high as feature films, so it was a wonderful medium to screw up in while you find your style.” And screw up he did, but a myriad of enduring lessons were learned along the way.

When Chris isn't directing short films and music videos, he can be found hunched over a keyboard editing other people's films, television shows, documentaries, or Nike commercials. And with a career that has spanned well over half of his life, Chris not only remains passionate about the craft of filmmaking, but committed to the goal of directing feature films that can out-perform “Snakes On A Plane!” at the box office.

Director Statement

As a group of filmmakers possessed by a compulsion to craft scares, we challenged ourselves to create the eeriest horror micro-shorts within our power, while limited to the setting of a single Toronto apartment. Instead of the opulent mansions common to studio horror films, we had to haunt a space the average low-income horror fan is familiar with; our refuge; our modest haven; the best we could find within our price range! With a next-man-up mentality, we shot in the wee hours of the night, running and gunning and creating by committee. The result is a raw, creepy anthology, oozing with the fun we had making it.
