Ricki "Ricasso" Nelson is an award-winning filmmaker dedicated to crafting bold, thought-provoking narratives that challenge perspectives and spark conversation. A graduate of UNC Wilmington’s Film Studies and Creative Writing programs, she has built a career rooted in storytelling that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Her directorial work has garnered international recognition, most notably with her short film I Am Not Your Black Girl (2024), which earned Best Experimental Director at the Cannes Film Awards. Her short film , “Thank You For Your Time,” was awarded Best Short Film at the Carpool Drive-In Film Festival.
Ricki’s filmmaking is driven by a passion for centering underrepresented voices, exploring identity, and blending grounded storytelling with striking visuals. She strives to create work that feels both intimate and socially impactful.
