Elon Musk decided to endorse Donald Trump for president after an attempt was made on his life during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, the tech billionaire has revealed.

Musk told Fox News anchor Sean Hannity he intended to endorse Trump regardless, but the assassination attempt was a 'precipitating event'.

Trump, who was being interviewed by Hannity alongside Musk, admitted that he 'didn't know' that the shooting had 'sped up' the Tesla CEO's decision to back him.

'It sped it up, but I was going to do it anyway,' Musk, who was Trump's top donor during his 2024 presidential campaign, replied.

He further alleged that Trump is a 'good man', has been 'unfairly attacked', and that 'not once have I seen him do anything that was mean or cruel'.

Trump and Musk also used the interview as an opportunity to hit hack at the 'absurd' claims by Democrats that the duo are creating a constitutional crisis with the Administration's sweeping executive orders and governmental reform initiatives.

Trump has signed scores of executive directives in the past three weeks, many of which have been challenged in the courts as potentially unconstitutional. Musk was tasked with leading the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has declared a goal of rooting out 'waste, fraud and abuse' in federal spending.

But the pair claimed those criticizing Trump and DOGE's agendas 'couldn't care less about the Constitution' and are 'guilty of the crime of which they accuse us'.
