THOUSAND YARD STARE - ESPRIT DU CORPS

Esprit Du Corps, (a phrase that refers to the loyalty felt within a group of outliers) and the lyrical sentiment is around a smoldering feeling of rebellion, of camaraderie against the big guns, it's about the coming together of outliers, of strength in small numbers.

Director Biography - Darren Stokes

This is the first time collaborating with Thousand Yard Stare, but lead singer Stephen Barnes and I have been friends for over 15 years through a mutual love of music and football.

Stephen approached me after enjoying the work I'd done for our fellow friend and musician Carl Mann of The ShopWindow.

An Award-Winning Creative with 20 years of experience in video production. With a passion for editing sizzle reels, music videos, and developing ideas.
From learning my trade as a promo producer, I evolved into a promo editor/producer, and eventually a Creative Head at Sony Pictures TV.
Since 2017 I've looked for different challenges and interesting projects as a freelancer.
Here and now I direct, film, creative direct and edit a variety of projects, from promos and ads to webinars, branding testimonials, and award-winning music videos, all of which you can watch here, S8creative.net.

I lept at being involved in the project. Not only is Barnesy someone I admire a lot, but this song is amazing. The Epic tone of it resonated through me and around me. So the inspiration for this MV wasn't difficult.
My research took in 1984, V for Vendetta, The Verve, and various 90s music videos.
As always I try to interpret the lyrics visually, which in this scenario was to me, completely obvious.
There were plans for a bigger more complex production, but as always budget and time dictate, so we pivoted and ended up with a more basic version of the initial treatment. The heart was still there and you get that sense of Espirit Du Corps nonetheless... ✊🏻
