The director is a filmmaker focused on the atmospheric power of Colombian folk horror and the relationship between childhood innocence and the shadows of rural landscapes. His work emphasizes the psychological weight of fear and the resilience of the human spirit, weaving together the traditions of the slasher genre with the historical realities of his surroundings. By treating the environment as a central character, he creates narratives that honor the stories of his community, seeking to transform local myths into sensory experiences that challenge the audience to look beneath the surface of everyday life.
As a short film produced at the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente in Cali, this project is built upon a haunting synergy of image and sound, where vast sugarcane fields are transformed into a labyrinth of both beauty and dread. The visual language relies on the natural textures of the region to evoke deep isolation, while the soundscape plays a vital role; the rhythmic rustling of leaves and a piercing, melodic whistle serve as the primary triggers for terror. The music and audio are designed to echo the "silenced violences" of the past, using folk-inspired tones to process communal fear and loss. This creative vision proposes that the most profound horror occurs when a familiar sound is distorted into a signal of danger, forcing the viewer to confront the monsters that hide in plain sight.
