THE WAVE is a family drama inspired by true events, set in one of the biggest slums in Uganda(Namuwongo). Lots of families in Africa suffered from fear, hunger and death all resulting from the Covid 19 pandemic and the measures to cub its spread.
Uganda was under lockdown for almost 2 years with closure of schools, public and private transport, business centures and many other sectors. The employment sector was affected the most which saw thousands of people lose their jobs, most of these turned into beggers, others left the cities to villages yet others succumbed to hunger. Such situations inspired me to write and produce The Wave seeing that it portrays a poor family of 6 based in Namuwongo slum, Juliet and her husband lose their jobs to the lockdown and the situation worsens when Juliet's husband tests positive for covid 19 and quarantined for months, leaving her helpless to fend fror their four children. Juliet's only hope lies at the mercy of her close friends and government food which is not even enough to see the family throughout the entire lockdown. she fights tooth and nail to ensure survival of her children.
Working on this film gave me an oportunity to work with a very special group of people (Persons with albinism), The Wave has four of them as part of our key cast. working with them was a very beautiful thing it increased the spirit of togetherness and non-discrimination which is one of the most important reasons why i made the film.
