THE BEAST IN ME MANIFESTO
This call-to-action feminist film manifesto interrogates animal representation and cinema to question how humans encounter animals on screen. The form offers a new inquiry into the ways we as viewers are complicit in animal exploitation through the cinematic experience. The manifesto style of filmmaking is provocative and disruptive, and challenges commonly held views about animals and their agency, power and vulnerability and labour and capital. These unprecedented times call for the labour of care to include animals with the hopes to create a kinder, more empathetic future.

Bonnie Whitehall (she/her) is a filmmaker and artist whose interest is cross-disciplinary. Her current focus in Documentary Media (MFA) merges her art practice and interest in disrupting conventional narratives to be more inclusive. Whitehall’s films examine current environmental and political issues, and imagine future realities that combine nonfiction, expermiental, and sci-fi themes to explore new media. Her former work in post-production sound for film and television and experience teaching in alternative education have led her to documentary filmmaking.
