Kim Cummings wrote and directed the award-winning short WEEKI WACHEE GIRLS. The film screened in over 70 festivals around the world, earning three "Best of" awards and a nomination for best short at Taos in 2000. The film, distributed by Buskfilms.com, aired on SanFrancisco's PBS station and NY Metro channels. The Orlando Weekly called it "A keenly observed coming-of-age story told with affection." Her next film, FLOWER OF A GIRL, played inf estivals through the Northeast. Most recently, she directed THAT'S WHAT SHE TOLD ME, one woman's surreal journey to find her father, produced by Kate Greer.
Cummings has worked on over a dozen short films in various roles since earning her film certificate from NYU's Continuing Ed program in 1992. Her feature-length script of WEEKI WACHEE GIRLS won an honorable mention in the 2008 ONE IN TEN Screenplay Competition and that year, Cummings ws awarded a grant form Queens Council on the Arts to produce a reading of the script. Her one-act play, LUNCH AT TOM'S HAM AND EGGERY was a finalist in the 2003 Strawberry Festival. She is currently in post production on her first feature film, IN MONTAUK, a love-triangle that ends in tragedy. She received post-production grants from the Long Island Film/TV Foundation and Queens Council on the Arts for IN MONTAUK.
I was drawn to this project for many reasons: the music, the heartfelt story and the dedication of the writer/producer to get it done. Growing up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, country music is a way of life, and no one expresses it better than the Man in Black. Our main character, Carly North experiences a longing to find that missing thing in her life, which was a story very near to my heart. Making this film has been a long road - one I'm happy to have been a part of. I hope you enjoy watching it as much I enjoyed being part of making it.--Kim Cummings, Director: That's What She Told Me
