Director’s Biography
Edgar Iván Rodríguez Quiroz (Poza Rica, Veracruz, March 10, 1980) is a filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, photographer, actor, and visual artist from Poza Rica, Veracruz. He is the founder of El Águila Films, his production company established in 2010.
Filmography:
Director and Director of Photography (DoP) of Leyendas de mi Tierra, his latest feature film project completed in 2025, an indie epic fiction and war drama about a Mexican Revolution hero. Short film director of: Reminiscence (Experimental), Café Express-O (Fiction), La Catrina (Documentary), and El Proyecto XCDOK 1970 (MicroDoc).
He began his career as a videographer at the age of 12, working in photography studios. Between 2004 and 2010, he worked in print and television media.
From an early age, he showed interest in cinema. At just seven years old, he conceived the project XCDOK as a survival story inspired by Alive (the Andes survivors), which motivated him to become a self-taught filmmaker. In 1998, he worked in a cinema, using it as a natural and autodidactic training ground, learning from direct experience of films on the big screen with all their sensory power as a spectator-analyst. By recommending films to clients, he learned what worked and what didn’t with different audiences. Without formal classrooms, his local cinema was his school, much like the video rental store was for Tarantino.
He has completed exhibitions, professional studies, workshops, and diploma courses in Artistic Project Management, Audience Development, Directing, Executive Production, and Film Distribution through the National Network of Audiovisual Poles of the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE), the Ibero-American Center for Photography and Film Studies (CIBEF), and Churubusco Studios. In 2016, he completed a directing and production workshop at the New York Film Academy, taught by Jonathan Whittaker (Sony Pictures Director) in Puebla. He also completed an Assistant Director workshop at the Latin American Training Center, an online specialization course in assistant directing at FORMA, Spain, and a Camera Assistant Seminar (1AC/2AC) in Cinematography.
20 years of experience in fiction and documentary projects, on platforms such as FILMIN LATINO, MOWIES, and FILMFREEWAY.
