Terra
Set in a war-zone, a war doctor and his medical staff are forced underground into a make-shift hospital, only to be faced with a desperate father willing to do whatever it takes to be helped. When survival is everything, morality is the first casualty.
TERRA is an isolated, tension filled drama, with the majority of the story taking place in a make-shift war zone hospital. Three stories are woven together: a father and child determined to escape the war at any cost, a student nurse whose eagerness to help compromises her innocence, and a heroic war doctor, jaded by experience, who is forced to make impossible decisions in the most desperate of circumstances.

Rory Wilson is a British self-taught filmmaker whose work explores intimate human stories navigating moral quandary. He writes, shoots, and edits his own films.
Prior to his debut feature Terra, Rory’s short-form work received recognition from the BFI and was featured on acclaimed streaming platforms such as Omeleto and Samansa. Rory was selected for both BFI and Warner Bros Discover Emerging Directors Programmes 2026.
His films are driven by a strong personal vision, rooted in character and place, often working with minimal resources. Terra marks a significant milestone in Rory’s filmmaking journey—an independently produced, locally cast feature that continues his commitment to authentic, thought-provoking cinema.
Terra began as a quiet conversation with Rukar Ghani, a writer and story consultant originally from Northern Iraq, whom I met while working with a local community charity in Liverpool. Rukar had recently relocated to the UK, and through our friendship and shared discussions, Terra began to take shape—rooted in his real-life experiences and those of others around him. Together, we wanted to explore a story that separated people from politics, and focused instead on the deeply human: survival, loyalty, and the choices people make under pressure.
This film was made with very limited resources—an independent production built from the ground up with a small, committed team. We shot entirely in Liverpool and the Wirral, working with a local cast and a three-person crew (myself included, also taking on cinematography). Our main location—an underground hospital—was filmed in an abandoned school that we were lucky enough to access and re-dress ourselves.
At its heart, Terra is about resilience and human connection. We didn’t set out to make a statement, but rather to offer a space for empathy—a reminder that behind every headline or border, there are stories of ordinary people navigating extraordinary circumstances.
