Director Biography - Biplab Das

Biplab Das, 40, is a story writer and director. This is the 4th short film of Biplab Das as a director. Previously his short film 'The Orphan Lute' (2018) has been screened in various festival and got the 'Special Mention Of The Jury' award in Bogota, Colombia. In 2019, his short film 'THE THISTLE BALL' has been screened in '25 th Kolakta International Film Festival'. He worked with many national and international channels such as Discovery (Wild-frank-asia-stagione-1-episodio-3) , Al-jazeera (A Curse In the Family, Documentry), MTV(Rodies 2005) etc to make documentaries on various subjects. He is also an author of three popular Bengali books.

Director Statement

The restaurant loving crowd of India's City Of Joy Kolkata are unaware that some of their meat is actually coming from dead animals picked up from dumping grounds. Poor slum-dwellers are engaged in the trade by gang lords who remain in the background.

Straight talking Kamal is one such guy who meets poor but beautiful destitute Jonaki in the dumping ground. Jonaki influences Kamal to dream of a future beyond crime. Their togetherness however makes Kamal's crooked partner Bisha seething with jealousy and lust.

When the business of contaminated meat gets exposed in the media, Jonaki asks Kamal to confess to police. He agrees. However policemen with dubious intentions lock him up.

In Kamal's absence Bisha pounces on Jonaki. Poor people like Kamal and Jonaki are the pieces of meat being served to the vultures of society everyday.
