Dariush Ahmadi is an Iranian filmmaker who transitioned into the arts after years of working in technical fields. He holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a Master’s in IT. His deep interest in storytelling led him to theatre, where he studied acting through independent workshops and gained stage performance experience.
He later pursued filmmaking at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, where he developed his personal cinematic language. Dariush’s films are inspired by everyday life and social concerns, told through simple, honest narratives that aim to connect with audiences on a human level.
I, Dariush Ahmadi, like many others in my youth, am shaped by my mistakes and choices. These lived experiences, along with my perceptions of the world around me, serve as the initial ingredients for creating my cinematic expression.
At first glance, cinema has two main branches: entertaining and non-entertaining. Choosing between the two—whether as a viewer or as a filmmaker—depends on various factors such as one’s personal spirit and the social atmosphere of the time.
For me as a filmmaker, a film is valuable when it is entertaining while also carrying my own concerns within its deeper layers. By “entertaining,” I mean that the audience should not feel estranged in the realm of the film, rather than relying merely on comedic or erotic aspects.
Cinema, to me, is a world projected on screen—one that the audience chooses to step into, if only for a moment, amidst the routines of everyday life.
