Mehrab Khalid is an emerging filmmaker and a student of Film & Television at the National College of Arts (NCA), Pakistan. Originally from Balochistan, his work is deeply influenced by themes of distance, memory, and the quiet emotional weight of everyday life.
His filmmaking approach is intimate and observational, often drawing from personal experiences and the socio-political realities around him. Through minimal yet expressive storytelling, he explores silence, absence, and human connection in spaces where communication is fragile.
What I Don’t Tell comes from my experience of living in Lahore while my family is in Balochistan, where mobile networks often go down due to war conditions. During one such time, when I couldn’t talk to my mother, I started recording our phone calls to keep her voice with me.
This documentary is built on those recordings. Through a simple and poetic approach, the film uses everyday spaces, silence, and sound to explore distance, absence, and the feeling of being away from home, where care and love continue to exist.
