Director Biography - Jim Stephenson

Jim Stephenson is a photographer and film-maker concerned with the documentation of architecture, interiors and the built environment.

Trained as an architectural technologist, on graduation Jim worked in the industry for almost ten years on both sides of the Atlantic. During this time he began to document for architectural practices, eventually setting down his pen to photograph and film buildings full time.

Working across the UK and around the world, Jim has had his images have featured in a number of publications including The Sunday Times; The Guardian; The Observer; The Evening Standard; The New York Times; The Financial Times; Icon; Architecture Today; A+U (Japan); A+W (Germany); Revista AU (Brazil); The Architect’s Journal; Building Design; Blueprint and Dezeen amongst others.
He has been commissioned to photograph and produces films on projects by a wide range of architects and designers, including BIG; Herzog & de Meuron; Assemble; Zaha Hadid Architects; dRMM; Studio in the Woods / Invisible Studio; AHMM; Wilkinson Eyre; Foster & Partners; Rogers, Stirk Harbour and Partners; John Pardey Architects; Rural Studio; PUP Architects; MVRDV; Sou Fujimoto Architects; 6a; Studio Weave and many others.

Director Statement

Gianni talks about 'slow architecture' a lot. A contemplative method of creating works of architecture, that takes a lot of time and reflection, so it made sense for this film to be slow as well, quiet and calm.
