Director Biography - Petra Patria D. Paramita

A self-taught director, writer, and animator with an English literature background. She started making stop-motion animation during the pandemic in 2020. She wrote and directed a stop-motion short film "Hoodwink" as a part of 2022 Biennale Jakarta. I Swarnangkara is her latest film.

Director Statement

I interested in languages, and i have been living in a several places that still use their native language in daily life. I found out that maybe they familiar with the native language by tone of voice but not the native letters including me. Idea of this story comes out from my hometown Java. In Java, 'name' has been written with hope, prayer, and identity of the owner. The 'name' also written in native javanese letter which in each letter have a different purpose. then when we forgot about that we will lost our identity.
