Submasubmarine

We were visiting a 1959 soviet submarine in Zeebrugge, my daughter and I. The belly of the ship was like a labyrinth, as if we were entering a never ending cave, so we lost sight of each other. Walking alone in the semi-darkness, I decided to record.

Director Biography - Frédéric Roussel

Born in Brussels, Belgium, where I live, I practice and teach Drawing. My main concern is telling, be it by ways of words alone, words and drawings, words and photos, no matter if I cross the boundaries between art fields. Feeling concerned by the intricacies image is rich of, I like to explore the ties linking pictures to words and sound. I am also fond of nature, and my stories mirror it to some extent. I love challenges, such as making films on a shoestring, in the back of a garage...

Director Statement

The result is dark and ghastly, a symphony of acid reds, livid yellows and gloomy greens. The rough din of the engine, filling up the place all around, combined with the image noise generated by the low quality resolution of the smartphone, add something of their own to that restless harmony.
