Study II on the Nature of Transformation

“Study II on the Nature of Transformation” is a non-narrative Visual Music Film (Audiovisual Composition). The author explores the audiovisual relationships between music and the moving images “abstracted” from reality when the sound and the imagery have a very strong referentiality to the real world. The life-like footage is primarily synchronised with the same natural environment’s processed sounds, whereas processed moving images are related to natural, unprocessed sounds. However, there is always a level of ambiguity where non-processed sounds are heard with non-processed imagery and vice versa. The composition was produced between the summer of 2020 and the spring of 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and lockdowns significantly influenced its production. The majority of the footage was filmed in isolated and sparsely populated areas. Looking back, I can see that the piece reflects the emotional impact of those challenging experiences on my mind.
