Derek “Derek.” Yancey Jr. is a film director and cinematographer from the state of Virginia. He has won awards in multiple mediums, including film, photography and animation. He directed his first short film in the Summer of 2015.
Continuing to function as both director and director of photography for short films, he also expanded to music videos and television pilots. His technical approach to cinematography is primarily concerned with creating a distinct separation of light and darkness or chiaroscuro, while also using natural lighting to give scenes a realistic and natural feel.
Derek is currently in his senior year of college, studying cinema and television at Regent University. He is in the process of writing and producing an anthology series centered on science fiction. While also preparing to serve as director of photography for a television show produced by AMG Films. Derek plans to open his own production studio in the Fall of 2018 while continuing his passion for writing, directing, and shooting films.
