This project has been a crazy journey to say the least. I started working on the still series at the same time as I was shooting the documentary, which took place over the course of several months. Initially I thought it would be a simple project to capture the footage and stills I wanted, however, it turns out chasing stray and feral cats in the dark streets of Los Angeles with camera equipment is not at all easy. So it was an adventure, and I learned a great deal along the way about the cats and the community that's trying to take care of them despite many great challenges. I am so eager to share the project, to introduce the world to these sweet creatures in their unique home, to show folks what's going on in their own back yards, and make people aware that this is an issue. As sad as it is to learn there are so many homeless cats out there, I want to be light amidst the darkness, and remind everyone of the beauty and the hope we can find in these cats. In them we can see some similar qualities that many humans possess. These cats have a great deal of perseverance and a strong will to survive. They have such love for the other cats in their little colonies--even though they are homeless they are not alone. I hope people will see my work and find in themselves perseverance, love, and a hope for tomorrow.
