Stepping on the Ground (Pisando no Chão)
Stepping on the Ground by Zoë Beer documents the second Forró Dance and Culture Festival in Caraíva, Bahia, held in July 2024. The film celebrates forró, art and the local culture, emphasizing female, Black, and Indigenous protagonism. It portrays the community's resilience highlighting movements for gender and racial equality, education and preservation of the environment. Through music, dance, capoeira, yoga, and sacred rituals, the film captures acts of resistance and highlights the cultural exchange and unity, balancing between tradition and experimentation, between roots and expansion.

Zoë Leonie Beer, 29, grew up in Switzerland and completed a degree in Visual Anthropology and Interreligious Studies at the University of Bern, Switzerland. During her studies, she made several short films, one of them as her thesis. Since June 2023 she has been living and working in Brazil and has in that time filmed several events and produced a short and a feature film. She has mostly been based in the states Pernambuco, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
