Experiencing Interruptions?

Stations of the Cross

A story of faith, denial, and revelation. As one heart is shattered by unimaginable loss and consumed by hopelessness, the line between salvation and damnation begins to blur. In a world where belief is tested and truth is uncertain, one soul must confront the ultimate temptation, life, or death.

Director Biography - Aleksa Ristovic

Aleksa Ristovic (born November 25, 1973, Serbia) is a Malta-based independent filmmaker whose work blends spirituality, silence, and the poetic interplay between faith and nature. After a turbulent youth, he moved to Belgrade in the early 2000s, studying and working in graphic design and 3D animation before seeking a new beginning in Malta in 2015.

Now living in Malta with his wife, Tania, and their daughter, Doroteja, he pursued formal training at MCAST’s Institute for the Creative Arts and works full-time in the film industry across commercial and independent productions.

His early experience includes contributions to the documentary Filfla – A Marine Protected Area (2016) and background artist on 7 Days in Entebbe (2016/2017). He later established himself as a fully independent filmmaker, writing, directing, filming, and editing all his work alone. His films include:

I Resign?! (2017)

Losin’ You (2019)

Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining (2020)

Monumental (2021)

Stations of the Cross (2024)

The Chapel Door (2025)

His debut feature film Illusion of Faith (2026)

Ristovic’s films have been recognized at numerous independent film festivals worldwide. Stations of the Cross (2024) received Best Experimental Short Film at HARD FAITH™ FEST Hollywood, Best International Short at the Washington DC International Cinema Festival, and Best Cinematography at the CONTENT Film Festival and Media Summit (TX), organized by the Christian Filmmakers Network and Capernaum Studios.

Rooted in minimalism, contemplative imagery, and deep emotional undercurrents, Ristovic’s work serves as a visual meditation, exploring inner transformation, faith, and the quiet spaces where humanity meets the divine.

Director Statement

My filmmaking practice is rooted in silence, nature, and spiritual reflection. Stations of the Cross was inspired by a deeply personal chapter of my life, witnessing my daughter’s struggles and navigating the quiet pain that follows a parent’s heart. Through this, I found myself drawn back to the symbolic path of the Stations, where suffering, patience, and hope intertwine.
I create films as a form of meditation, relying on minimal dialogue and poetic imagery to let the audience breathe and feel. In this film, faith is not presented as doctrine but as something intimate and fragile, a presence found in light, stillness, and the resilience of the human soul. My intention was to reveal the sacred in ordinary moments and to allow the invisible to speak.
