Director Statement

I chose to write the story of a young famous pop star, Tory Hill, stuck in her sparkly world but deep down wanting to get out of it to live a normal life.
I want to show her as a human being, suffering from what everyone thinks is happiness. Fame. Money. Easy life. We always say that money doesn’t buy happiness, which is what people should get from this movie.
There are many reasons why I want the story to be told this way. The main reason is to take another perspective, have another point of view, and get immersed in a pop star's life to know how it is truly. I don’t pretend to know exactly how it is, but I have seen how it is to be a woman in our society and I know that it can be even harder in the music industry. We tend to think that famous people have everything, but in this movie, the audience will see the behind-the-scenes of fame and glory.
My first motivation is that it is something that I have always dreamed of. I remember watching those pop stars growing up and wishing I could be like them, have what they have, and live the perfect life as a star. Now that I’m grown up, the difference in perspective hit me. It took me time to understand that they don’t have the perfect life, especially with everything we see on social media nowadays, it feels like nothing is real but no one cares.
So now, my vision is to focus on how this girl feels behind what anyone would see in the media. She is loved by her fans, she has money, success, and everything she wants. But there is always something missing. Why isn’t she happy if she has everything? People who have achieved the ultimate success in life and yet often feel empty. This is my focus, theme. By showing those feelings, I want to raise awareness of mental health as well. This is an important subject for me as I have experienced those feelings of emptiness before. It means a lot because, at that time in my life, I felt like I had no one, which wasn’t the case. And I wasn’t a pop star with everything I wanted. So by making this character, I feel like I would be achieving something bigger than us.
