STRANGERS AND THEIR BABIES
Following the Fall/Liberation of Vietnam in 1975, nearly one million people fled by sea; countless lives were lost in the process. Among the survivors were those held in two unlisted refugee camps in the offshore Penghu Islands in the Taiwan Strait.
These camps are not included in UN records, and there, 106 babies were born into a chapter of history that was nearly forgotten.
Decades later, four of these children—raised across the U.S., Penghu, and Taiwan—retrace their families’ harrowing escape and navigate their own search for identity across borders.
The documentary invites the audience to revisit those fragments the refugees feared to forget and feared to remember—the visible and invisible memories drifting between the Indochina Peninsula and the sea.
