Director Biography - Clarence Lin Thein

Clarence Lin Thein is a Burmese Australian film director, writer, cinematographer and editor. Born on May 20th, 2003, Clarence grew up in Western Sydney creating little scripted and non-scripted videos with his childhood friends. He later tried to teach himself 2D animation before discovering his love for the craft of filmmaking.

At 17 years old, Clarence produced, wrote, directed, shot and edited his first official short film, 'Moonlit Nights'. The short was made with a shoestring budget of $200 AUD and the help of some of his friends. The short also managed to get an Official Selection at Serbest International Film Festival.

Clarence is studying a Bachelor of Media Communications, Majoring in Screen Practice and Production at Macquarie University. He is also in post-production for a new short film 'Springbound', a character focused coming of age story.

Having no prior industry experience or connections whatsoever, Clarence is determined to learn and build up experience and skills whilst also creating meaningful connections along the way. He also aims to tell unique and original stories through the medium of film.

Director Statement

Working on 'Springbound' has been such an insightful and rewarding experience for me. I was able to work with so many talented people on this production who volunteered so much of their time in order to make this film possible. I think there's no doubt that 'Springbound' - though it has some flaws - is a HUGE step up from my previous short film 'Moonlit Nights'. I enjoy seeing my progress as a filmmaker through each production/project and I get quite excited to see what I might be able to do in the future. I think this short film has interesting elements that I'm quite proud of, but I won't spoil them now. I hope many people are able to relate or enjoy 'Springbound' when it is premiered/screened/released but if not, that's alright. Thank you everyone for your continued support. Can't wait for you all to see it !
