Split Apart
In a single-tone, vertical city, a lonely man. He stands out as he stands out from his selves. Divided, split. Trying to fit in, to synchronize.

Zina Papadopoulou is an independent animator and director. She studied Graphic Design and took her Master’s degree in Animation at the Utrecht School of the Arts, the Netherlands.
Petros Papadopoulos is a Greek director and animator. He studied Technology of Graphic Arts at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens. After finishing his MA in Digital Moving Image at London Metropolitan University, he worked in the field of TV advertising.
I tend to think a lot in visual terms, so I was walking down the street together with my brother brainstorming ideas about interesting situations. We came up with the idea of a man who is divided and cannot control his body, he splits visually and cannot synchronize with himself.
Having no dialogue was challenging, we had to focus on the body language. Together with a choreographer and the actor, we designed his every movement: from the way he walks, to the way he moves his fingers.
We did want to stay in line with an idea about a non-descriptive world, a place that has no space or time. The outer world is flat blue animated layers of skyscrapers, a cold city without details. Most of the plot is inside the apartment of the main character, the inner world, situated on the upper floor of a skyscraper: A gray apartment with damaged walls and detailed, neoclassical architecture.
