Soormi

Soormi is a poetic and visually haunting music video that intertwines the lyrical celebration of resilient women with a symbolic, cinematic journey of artistic discovery. The powerful verses honor the courage, sacrifice, and revolutionary spirit of women who defy patriarchy and carry the soul of their land within them—likened to legendary figures such as Sassui, Marvi, and Suhni.

Visually, the story follows an artist seeking inspiration in a quiet park. When he stumbles upon a trail of blood-stained jewelry, he is compelled to follow the eerie clues deep into the woods. As he ventures into the silent wilderness, each step becomes a meditation on struggle, freedom, and the unspoken stories of warrior women. His path ends at the edge of a shadowed valley—where silence meets resistance, and memory becomes revolution.

Captured through the compelling lens of Ali Zaid Hingoro, Soormi is both a tribute and a mystery—where poetic resistance finds form in cinematic silence.

Director Biography - Mohsin Zavi

Mohsin Zavi is a Pakistani independent filmmaker known for his psychologically layered and visually immersive storytelling. In mid-2025, he directed and edited the music video Soormi for singer-songwriter Amjad Mirani, bringing a haunting and symbolic visual narrative to life that blends cultural depth with emotional intensity.

Zavi takes a hands-on approach to his work—often writing, directing, editing, which contributes to his signature tension-driven style. His work explores themes of guilt, identity, and survival through claustrophobic framing, fractured timelines, and morally ambiguous characters. He cites Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, David Fincher, and Paul Thomas Anderson as key influences on his creative vision.

Director Statement

Soormi is more than a music video—it is a visual poem, a tribute to the silent strength and untold sacrifices of women who carry the weight of resistance in their hearts. The song’s lyrics were born from a deep reverence for the warrior women of our land—those who, like Sassui and Marvi, endure pain, challenge norms, and stand unshaken against injustice.

In crafting the visual narrative, I wanted to move beyond literal representation and instead create an emotional experience. The story of an artist discovering a trail of bloodied jewelry serves as a metaphor for the search for truth, inspiration, and the hidden stories of women lost in time but alive in spirit. Each clue he follows is a fragment of a greater, unseen battle—one fought by generations of women whose voices echo through silence.

Visually, I collaborated closely with Director of Photography Ali Zaid Hingoro, whose lens captured the haunting stillness and poetic beauty of this journey. Together, we aimed to blur the lines between memory and myth, present and past, creating a space where art and activism could coexist.

Soormi is our homage to all the women who resist—not with noise, but with quiet, unwavering resolve. It is a call to remember, to honor, and to never look away.
