Song Is A Spell

An all girl band accidentally unleashes a spell during band practice.

Fame hungry lead-singer Ana, who just so happens to be a witch, brings her spellbook to the rehearsal for her all girl rock band “Caliban”. But she sings from the wrong page, creating an “influence spell” which unleashes a new power to command the others with a word, but it comes along with dark energies. Her bandmates, pothead guitarist Flow and nerdy drummer Rosemary are both delighted and outraged. While Rosemary is intrigued to find out more, Flow confronts Ana in a rage as they try to untangle how the spell works and what to do with their newfound magical ability before the band falls apart.

Director Statement

Magic is only pure when we do it together.

Ever since I was a kid, watching shows like "Sailor Moon" and movies like "The Craft", I yearned for a tight knit group of female friends to battle the world with. In my 20s this morphed into a deep desire to be in a band. My very short lived all-girl band "Baby Bikes" only made this yearning deeper. I was a DJ through most of my 20s, spending my time with musicians. I was fascinated by the family dynamics of the band. The idea of this film came from my feature film "Supergroup" about the same group of girls grappling with music and magic on a larger scale. It's meant to be fun, I hope you love it.
