Somos el Barrio

Menchaca, Mujeres Independientes and San José el Alto, in the municipality of Querétaro, are the neighborhoods, the streets and scenes in which four young people have lived the stories that have made them what they are today.

José María González Flores, aka “Chema”, from the gang of “los PQ's de San Jo”, a rapper who has been in prison two times and with drugs as part of his life since he was 16 years old, is one of the protagonists of this documentary. With his parents not living together, he longs to be, for his six year old daughter, the father he always wanted for himself.

David Miranda Hernández, “DMH”, is the leader of the “DH” “clicka”, and was raised in the Mujeres Independientes neighborhood by his mother and his stepfather. Music is his passion and drive of him, the gang his identity of him and the neighborhood his home of him.
His influence on other young people has made him some one known by all, someone who greets everybody while walking the streets of the hood rapping and giving voice to his “black sheeps.”

Everardo Mata Paredes belongs to the “ILCK” (Ilicit Criminales) and is known in San José el Alto as “Peluzin”. The walls in his neighborhood are the skin in which he tattoos in his spray, because drawing and graffiti have been his language and way of expression in the last 10 years since His mother died.

Abigail León Pérez, “La Macho”, from the “LPRM” (La Princi Rompiendo Madres) gang has been away from her parents for the last 15 years, and used to follow the example of an uncle, trying to stay herself out of drugs . Her dream is to become an artist of silkscreen printing as a way of living and expressing her self.

Facing this kind of stories, the Municipality of Querétaro decides to make an intervention through public policies and support programs, answering to the needs not only of these four young people, but of all the youth in the area that share common difficulties as dysfunctional families, drugs addiction, school dropout and lack of long term planning for their lives, along with other day to day problems.

Let us then have a look through a lightener window and discover what moves, what holds, and which are the dreams that are dreamed by the hood, by the streets and those who inhabit It.
