Director Biography - Omar Deneb Juárez

Omar Deneb Juarez is a Mexican filmmaker winner of the 2017 Mexican Academy Award (Ariel Awards) as Best Narrative Short Film, for the dramatic thriller short "Juan's Sundown” (2016). With this short (his first professional work as a director) he also won the Special Mention of the Jury as Best Ibero-American Short Film at the 2016 Guadalajara's International Film Festival, as well as multiple selections and awards in a variety of high quality film festivals around the world, after which he had the honor to be recognized by the Academie des Cesar (France) as one of the Best Short Films of the World at the 2018 "Les Nuits en Or" event, held in Paris, Rome and Athens that same year.

In 2019, he premiered his next short film “A Song for Mary” (2019), an intimate and emotional road movie project that would also be nominated for the 2020 Mexican Academy Awards as Best Narrative Short Film that same year, and which would also went on to win various national and international awards, including the "Cabrito de Plata" Award for Best Short Film at Monterrey's International Film Festival and the "Venus de Badalona" Award as Best International Film of the Year, at the 2021 FILMETS Badalona Short Film Festival; an international competition of more than 230 short films from all over the world, held in Barcelona, Spain.

Thanks to these two previous projects, his most recent short film entitled "Isla Soledad" (a powerful, yet touching story about motherly love) is expected to be released in 2023 and was co-produced in an international collaboration between Sauce Negro Films (the small-town, independent production company behind his two previous shorts and which he co-directs with long time writer/filmmaker partner Camilo Gutiérrez Galván) and Slick Films; a british Oscar winning production company from London, winner of the 2018 Academy Award as Best Drama Short film for "The Silent Child", directed by Chris Overton, founder of Slick Films.

He is currently writing his feature-length Opera Prima.
