Private Project

Sold

This surreal thriller, Sold, reveals a dark surreal setting of a messy apartment where a disaffected and apathetic young adult finds himself ensnared in the relentless web of advertisements, unwittingly surrendering his dreams to the allure of materialism. The story centres on Doug, who is disenchanted by the throes of consumer culture. As a disillusioned guitarist, Doug gets affected by a series of various commercials without active awareness and continues to give in to all of them. He gets a pop-up notification on his phone, apparently from a young stunning woman, but finds out that it is an AI-generated bot that advertises international tours which disappoints him. As he battles through his inner struggles, he hears some strange sounds coming from his bedroom that lead him to a walk-in closet where he had stored many unnecessary items he had purchased before but never used. When his conflicts reach a point where he begins having thoughts that his life is not worth living, he hears the sound of the elevator and sees a shadow from beneath the apartment door and hides in the walk-in closet. These battles reach their climax when Doug finally goes out to his living room where he sees himself engaged in the exact same activities he was engaged in at the beginning of the film. The Second Doug makes him realize the fact that he has been stuck in an endless loop in time where he has no control over his actions nor decisions and the only solution is for him to make a major change in his ways of thinking and decision making in order to gain control of his powerful mind.
